Houston is a community of about 1000 residents. From the "Manor" it is an easy walk to the  grocery store, bank, hair salons, dental clinic, insurance agencies, gas stations, library, parks, and more. Within the city limits are four churches and directly across the street from Valley View Manor is Gunderson Lutheran Clinic which is opened five days a week. Meals on Wheels is available for the noon meal.
